The Colorado Eagles organization and the Northern Colorado hockey community are mourning the loss of Les Borsheim, a former player, longtime broadcaster, inspirational speaker, and beloved ambassador for the sport. Borsheim passed away on Tuesday at the age of 47, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond the hockey rink.
Known affectionately by fans as “Borshy,” Borsheim played three seasons with the Colorado Eagles and was a key contributor to the team’s 2006–07 Central Hockey League championship season. His professional hockey career also included time with organizations such as the Philadelphia Phantoms, Oklahoma City Blazers, and Quad City Mallards before injuries ultimately changed the course of his life.
In 2008, Borsheim suffered life-altering injuries in a serious motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Despite the devastating setback, he refused to let the tragedy define him. Instead, he became a symbol of resilience and determination, using his experience to inspire others facing adversity.
Following his playing career, Borsheim found a new way to contribute to the game he loved. Beginning in 2011, he served as the Colorado Eagles’ color analyst, spending 15 seasons in the broadcast booth. His passion, insight, and enthusiasm helped bring the game to life for generations of Eagles fans and made him one of the most recognizable voices in the organization’s history.
Beyond broadcasting, Borsheim devoted himself to community service. Through Team Borsheim, he shared his story with students and community groups throughout Northern Colorado, encouraging perseverance in the face of hardship. He also remained active in youth hockey, mentoring and coaching young athletes while continuing to serve as a positive influence both on and off the ice.
Tributes from former teammates, broadcasters, fans, and community leaders have highlighted Borsheim’s courage, kindness, and unwavering positivity. Many have noted that while he was admired for his toughness as a player, he will be remembered even more for the compassion and inspiration he brought to others.
As the Colorado Eagles family grieves, they also celebrate a remarkable life dedicated to hockey, community, and helping others. Les Borsheim’s voice, spirit, and legacy will forever remain part of Colorado Eagles history.
