Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic train-versus-pedestrian collision that occurred Monday evening in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, as Connor T. Braden, a 14-year-old boy from Latrobe.
According to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office, the fatal incident took place near milepost 320 on the railroad tracks when Connor was struck by an eastbound Norfolk Southern cargo train at approximately 8:57 p.m. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of the collision, but despite their efforts, the young teen succumbed to his injuries.
The coroner’s office reported that Connor was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. Officials determined the cause of death to be blunt force injuries sustained after being struck by the train. The tragedy has left family members, friends, classmates, and members of the Latrobe community devastated as they come to terms with the loss of a young life.
